Not for TF2 but it's pretty much the same. Feel free to ask me if you bump into any trouble.

yes, i fount the valve blog quite good, but it requres alot of page flicking.

i have started on a new map, the idea being having 3 cp in a sort of push forwards style,

only problem is i cannot get some brush based entities to stay as brush based entities, and i made spawnpoints but upon testing i spawn below them
any help would be appreciated

edit - sorted now, needed to elevate the spawn points off the ground due to player height.

Its starting to look good now, i will get it to a basic state and we can do some playtesting.

Get autopager for firefox and it might be able to auto load next page and append it to bottom of current page.

I think it works well, don't know if it'll be of any use in that situation.

its good for forums too but you have to wait for someone to program each site or forum software type thing.

here you go, the completed beta red area, the rased area will contain a controll point, the room to the left is the spawnroom, the 2 orange boxes are an empty mine truck and a bare bombcart, they work quite well as a springboard for good players to get up quick

Personally, i think it's better when you start by making the big picture first on paper, after that you finetune it on paper. Then you launch Hammer and start making a rough setup to make the distances allright, in dev textures. Then you finetune the level with dev textures and a little surroundings.

Well, the fact is the Tom is new to mapping(?). And well, it is probably a good idea just to learn the tools and so on. And when you are really gonna do a map, I scetch is a very good thing to have, tough it can be hard to imagine in 3d :P

yep im new to mapping, i have been coming up with rough ideas for maps for a while and sketching them out, mostly on scraps while at work or school.

i made my rough shapes first then fine tuned to get the right sizes, saying that im still fine tuning before i add any objectives to i can may multiple modes for the map.

Well firstoff, i got my train of death working on a 60s (aprox) back and forwards

The bit you see behind the train i think this area will not be accessable.

Looks ok, I think if your going to have inaccessible areas that look kind of accessible, you should stick a barrier in front of them or something to make it more obvious you can't go there.

Personally I hate nothing more than trying to go somewhere I should be able to go in a game and then being told to try again :(

If you notice there are 2 of the pictures that feature the barb fence, there is also a player clip brush on them, i was going to use buildings and fences to surround that area then a playerclip to contain it all.
Its just on the todo list, i wanted to finish the train before i started anything else.

The train has all the features, its bound as a group with the func train and a "train kill" brush (sorry i forgot the name). the 2 garrages also do damage, i just need to sort out some warning lights but that a last min job
