NDH clan wars?
« on: 17 May 2009, 01:05:20 »
Well, in the process of pondering new suggestions for NDH, I decided that it might be a good idea if we started playing competitively as some of the complaints that the recent leavers made was a lack of competitive play.

To start things off we would need to make up a team of players. I would like everyone who is interested to post here.

When can you play?
List the classes based on your ability to do well as them. #1 being the best.
Map suggestions.

I'm also not very experienced with the process of finding a team to play against. Could someone enlighten me on this?

Also, props to Dendo for helping me.

I have a little competitive experience in TF2, I'm in.
I'll need prior warning for games, so as to keep my skill level up, I've been revising for exams more than I've been playing TF2 recently.

I'm available most days after 5pm GMT.

#1 Demoman (or used to be, most people know that pretty well *fondles his ego* :D)
#2 Soldier (probably on par with Demoman recently)
#3 Pyro

Maps? I have no suggestions, I just recommend dodging things like cp_steel/cp_badlands/tc_hydro for clan matches due to obvious f****try. :D There are plenty of league sites around, check some of them out, get together a team and start us out realistically. ^^ You will require a Caller (apparently definitions are mixed up; a caller is someone that directs the team) and back-ups are advisable. Most leagues have set team structures or class limits etc. so check them out before applying.

AFAIK, the standard 6v6 scrim team makeup is 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, 1 medic and 1 demoman. I might be interested depending on if I'm good or not, meaning I think it best if you know what I can do instead of relying on a list.

As for what classes I'm good at;
#1. Scout.
#2/3. Soldier/Medic.

Hard to see the difference between soldier skill and medic skill as one is an AOE damage class and the other's a healer.. And this is my personal opinion on how I play right now, my skill is likely to change along with class playtimes. :p

When can you play?

Almost everyday between 17:00 and 22:00 except the weekend.

List the classes based on your ability to do well as them. #1 being the best.

1: Soldier
2: Scout
3: Medic

Map suggestions.

cp_granary
cp_well
cp_badlands
cp_gravelpit

over all I think every competitive map would be a good choice there for we should look at pick up leagues which maps they play :)
I have no right to doubt another mans opinion but i have the right to stand up for mine.

unfortunately, pyro is rarely used in competitive matches, as most of the time there will be at least one medic.

I do like scout, heavy, medic and maybe engi (He isnt used much either though , is he? :D)

Goldrush/Badwater are obviously my favourite maps (really, do I play anything else? :O)

This could be interesting..

You don't need a 'caller', everyone needs to call. There are no specific tasks for someone other than the tasks for the class he plays.

Soldier: You are bound to your medic, when you are the last soldier with the medic, you NEVER jump away. The soldiers main priority is protecting the medic. There are always 2 soldiers with the medic, when you died, and respawn, you should go back to your medic asap.
When capping spire on badlands for example: 1 soldier jumps to the top, 1 soldiers stays with the medic to protect him.

Scout: The most free class in competitive TF2 gaming. You are quite free where you want to go, but you always have 2 main goals: Don't let the other scouts kill your team/medic, kill the enemy's medic. Another task of the scouts sometimes is to protect your demo (as he can be raped very hard by enemy scouts :) ). Another thing that scouts do is back capping.

Demo: He stays near the medic, so you can easily get health if you need it. Demoman sets up stickytraps and can make a lot of kills with his pipes. It's like the soldiers, but you arent bound to your medic.

Medic: Heals other people ofc :D . As a medic, idealy, you never die, but remember: You are always the target of your enemy.

Stinky: Engi is only used (sometimes) on Attack/Defend maps like Dustbowl, Goldrush, Gravelpit and sometimes Turbine.

Pyro is only used when you spawn soon and your last CP is being capped (as a last stand).

Most played maps (from most to least)

Badlands
Granary
Well
Gravelpit
Turbine
Freight
Dustbowl

Other maps aren't played usually (because they arent fitted for 6vs6 matches, or it takes to much time (Goldrush for example).

Basic lineup:
Medic
Demo
Soldier
Soldier
Scout
Scout

Sometimes a soldier or scout is switched to heavy.

Informative post

Thanks for clearing that up. Could I also get some information on what you need to do to find a team to play against? This isn't the first thing we are going to do, but I'd like to know anyway.
Thanks in advance.  ;)

It's quite simple, finding a team.

First the main site for TF2 seasons/cups/everthing:
http://etf2l.org/

Over there, is the most important season, there are 6 divisions, division 1 are the best clans in the world, and div 6 are the biggest nublets (cough GoT3 cough)...

Here you can find a lot of usefull information, like all the rules (official rules, which are commonly used).

Next you need IRC, IRC is the most used communication line for TF2 matches. If you need to make contact with someone about your next season match, get on IRC and you will find them.

On IRC you can also find a few other important channels:
#mpuktf2.pickup
Some of you know this i think, here you can join pickups
#tf.wars
Want to play a PCW (Practise Clan War)? Its over here, post you're wants, and someone will react on them. For example:

6vs6 | Low- | Server ON | now

With this, you say that you are looking for a 6vs6 match, the skill level you are looking for is low-, you do have a warserver available with the correct config and that you want to play now.

Skill levels:
NDH is low--, the lowest you can get :P . With no war experience, you need the most worst team against you :P . GoT3 is Low, GoT1 is mid, Fakkelbrigade is High/high+, and Team Dignitas is 'Batman skill' (although thats the same as high+).

Go look around in that channel, over time you will learn to use the skill indicators.

Steam friends is actually not used for war arrengements (otherwise people will get a friendslist of 300 peoples long :P ).

You don't need a 'caller', everyone needs to call. There are no specific tasks for someone other than the tasks for the class he plays.

You need organisation, or would you rather people just run off and do their own thing? Everyone needs to call out the opposing team's movements, but I'm suggesting one person directs. Obviously the word 'need' is used loosely here, but just because the teams that you have played on haven't had a definitive leader doesn't mean that it isn't something used at all.

A caller is someone who says where scouts and stuff are (SCOUT BEHIND!). A leader is something different. That is the medic in fact. It is mainly the medic who decides what will happen next. Indeed, there will always be someone who needs to make dissicions, i guess that one will be someone with the most 'game sense'.

And a good team won't need any organisation, everybody should know what he needs to do :) .
