I think most of you guys know HLStatsX. We dont use it, because it is payed (about 5 euro's a month). I have found a nice free alternative for it, know as PsychoStats. (http://www.psychostats.com/)

Why do we need/want stats:

  • You can see you progression in the server
  • You can see interesting details about your play style (fav weapon, activity, kill/death ratio, headshots)
  • You can achieve points to get higher in the ranking list
  • People will come back to the server when they see it got stats. For example, you can fit the playerlist into the welcoming message :) .
  • It encourages anyone to do his best (his rank will get higher).

Now i really have no experience with PsychoStats, but to me, it looks like a nice statistic program. All we need is a server with PHP and MySQL (which we have > the site, dunno if we could use that one).

What do u guys think about it? When we have stats, ill come to the server more often :) .

Sorry for sticking my face in here, but:

The home server for my last clan had Psychostats.. it wasn't fantastic in the way that people that'd played for 30 minutes could be higher ranking than people who had a 3:1 overall KD for the last month. That was depressing xD
But also, it puts a kind of pressure on the server. People would literally not play on the server in order to protect their stats/rank. With stats on the server, regular visitors (in my experience) have been reluctant to play for long, because one bad day can totally mess you over. So if you were raging, or you had a hacker on the server, everything would be ruined.

Then again, stats give and interesting challenge. The competittive play that is dragged with it kinda dampens the game.

Although Killzone has some good points. I'll go away now. >.>

Hmm he has a point, I used to play on quite a busy gungame server back when I was addicted to cs:S and the situation there was just like that...

Maybe, but thats your own choice if you want to play like that, you can also just ignore the stats :) . I think its just a little bonus. Dont like it? Then dont use it :) . Maybe you can hide your rank (you can in HLstatsX) .

Overkill, it's TEAM Fortress 2, not Fortress 2. Go and play your Combat Arms stuff. :P

Anyway...
I see it as stats bring extra competition to TF2 (or any other Source-based game). Is that really a good thing?

Yes, of course we want frequent visitors - those players are potential recruits. My point was that do we want hardcore players - the people that are "super good" in TF2 (I could name a few examples here, but I won't do that).

I'm just afraid that our server(s?) will not be easy to approach for a regular gamer.

Its not as easy as who is the best player on a game like TF2, considering it has classes. The stats would be based on KDs and the like, and you've got the people that play heavy, suck, and still get a 2:20 KD because they have 15 medics.
