MTA:SA DM is out!
« on: 01 January 2008, 01:18:16 »

So, after these years... the first multiplayer modification for Grand Theft Auto has returned!

Multi Theft Auto has made a comeback - MTA San Andreas Deathmatch is out!
This is a developer preview release. It's meant for developers (scripters) to get to know how MTA works. It is not the final release. However, it's very nice and very playable ;)

You can't compare them yet and say that they differ from each other. Furthermore, seeing as MTA is in a "test version" and SA:MP has advanced greatly, I'd say that we have much to see from MTA. Well, here's something different that SA:MP doesn't have, yet. MTA will have headlights which you can turn off and on for your liking. MTA has built-in custom models from what I've heard and probably will support custom models. The ability to add objects seen throughout the game is far more advanced and the variety of options is greater. That's the main core, it has a lot of new stuff to mess around with.

Yes, and also Multi Theft Auto is just a "core". Coders/scripters create the features - we can create even a whole new island besides San Andreas if we want, or maybe a Andromada which drops nukes ("Boom Andreas"), or maybe even Formula 1 races.

These features are made in resources. When you enter a server, you surely have to download features - they can be gamemodes (Interstate69, Racing, Deathmatch...), custom models (cars, player models, new objects), or just something else! The possibilities are limitless thanks to the resource and core system, unlike in SA-MP, which doesn't allow us to add custom models nor modify stats.

Speaking about stats, Multi Theft Auto allows us to change nearly everything. We can put driving / weapon / etc. skills to 0 %, change vehicles' engines (electric engine in Infernus, that'd be nice, or supercharged petrol engine in a golf cart!) and their positions... basically we can finally make the cow fly.

Now I'll answer some of the questions:

So basicly there isn't a difference between SAMP and MTA?

There is. Please read the text above.

Dont really like MTA... better physics but crappy its only DM

Not only DM! I agree, the new mod is named badly, because it's not only deathmatch - its possibilities are limitless, as I said earlier. Racing, wars, stunting, new objects, new vehicles, new islands - we create the content to the mod. Want a skating gamemode? Okay, we'll do it. We can create ice, skates, nice winter playermodels - there you go! Or maybe a World War I fighterplane? Sure, let's model it in 3dsmax, texture it, test it and put it onto the server, where it can be downloaded together with other resources.

Note: I may have mentioned features which have been announced by the MTA Team, but not have been made by the coders or the community.

Now, you may wonder what South of Heaven will do with MTA. Well, we've got nice plans already.

We are currently starting to develop gamemodes to MTA. The primary goal is to convert the Street Racing Series gamemode to MTA. Also, I'll try to learn Lua scripting, so I'll start to make some kind of freeroam mode (read: mode with vehicles, player skins, hay bales...). When we have finished our own gamemode, we're moving officially to Multi Theft Auto and we'll leave San Andreas Multiplayer behind.

Edit:
If you want to compare SA-MP and MTA on *cough* SA-MP forum, click here. Warning, the topic is on SA-MP forum, so every SA-MP fanboy will announce there that they love SA-MP. ::)

Hmmm he's right, I play garrys mod 10 which also uses LUA and theres a lot of gamemodes for that (my favourite being Zombie Survival). I've actually seen a mta gungame server! so that just proves the expandibility.
