Yuk, an AMD..

Take an Intel: Much faster (check benchmarks).

Proc> Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 or Core 2 Quad E6600
Mobo> Gigabyte P35-DS3
If u want RAID: Take P35-DS3R

Benchmark:

Stick with AMD, intel are secretly controlled by micro$oft  ::)

Withouth joking:
Please buy urself an Intel. They are much faster, have a lower power consumtion, they are not microsoft controlled, and are better overclockers...
Every benchmark will show you that the Intel's are faster.

what websites are u looking at?

their only faster depending on the models which benchmarkers consider equivalents. AMDs have more "bang for your buck" in other words money wise you'd be better with that athlon u picked.

Alot of friends who are good with computers suggest AMD but on a buildyourownpc website there all praising intels. But if I wanted to get a decent Intel there about £160 and I still need to buy an OS (im allowed £700)

E6750 will cost u around 170 Euro's.

So that one wont be much expensive. Only thing is the mobo, but the Gigabyte is only 100 Euro's...

Really, search some benchmarks, then you will notice the big difference between them. A few years ago, the Athlon's were faster, but now, the Intel Core's are way faster. Time Changes :) .

Carefully watch to time : Lower is better
FPS and score's: Higher is better.

You will see that the Intel is much faster in games, and mostly faster than the (higher clocked) AMD's.

And watch Tom's Hardware.

I agree with Killzone, who'd be dumb to buy Athlon? Intel damn it! INTEL! If you'd buy Athlon instead of Intel, it would be like buying a Ford Sierra instead of a Ferrari.

* JuBizz quietly agrees with drpressure.

Yes, the gigahertzes are not enough. AMD processor does more in lower frequency, while Intel processor does the same amount of work in a lot higher frequency.
I say this, be ye redy with good hert
To al my wil, and that I frely may
As me best pleaseth do you laughe or smert,
And never ye to murmur, night or day;
And eek whan I say yea, ye say not nay,
Neyther by word, nor frownyng countenaunce?
Swer this, and here I swer our alliaunce.

And watch Tom's Hardware.

thats good advice :P

If i were u though i'd compare the processors which are actually in your price range not just the top from intel or AMD. U need to know which processor u can actually afford is fastest.

3.2 ghz sounds good enough to me. U might have to pick a new mobo as well.
