Mod Tutorial
« on: 24 June 2007, 13:57:12 »
Heres a tutorial for people who don't know how to install texture (appearence) mods:

Things you will need:
IMG Tool 0.2: http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=63
WinRAR http://www.rarlab.com/

I will use a black hydra mod as an example.
Remember to ALWAYS backup your gta3.img file. It is an important file and is critical to playing GTA or Sa-mp.

1.Most mods come in an WinRAR file, so you will need WinRAR to extract the files to a folder.
Right-click the rar file and then click Extract to Black Hydra. This should create a seperate folder called blackhydra.

2. Download, extract and then run IMG Editor, click on file then open. You now need to locate your GTA Sanandreas folder. Once you've found the GTA SA folder you must look for the models folder. The models folder should have the gta3.img file in it. The gta3.img file contains all the model files. Double-click the gta3.img file and open it.

3. The mod we are using right now requires that the hydra .txd needs replacing with the new ones from the black hydra folder. First of all though we need to find the old hydra file within the gta3.img. Click edit then find. Type hydra into the search box. You may need to search more than once due to similar named files. To do this quickly press F3.

4. Once you have located the hydra.txd u need to delete it. Click on commands then Delete.

5. Now they are gone we can now add the new modded files. Click command then Add. Locate the downloaded mod folder and then add the new file.

6. The last step to do now is to "Rebuild the archive". To do this click commands then Rebuild Archive.

And thats it. Now all you have to do is enjoy your new mod ;).

Why should you waste so much time! Download SAMI and let it do all the work for you. Use Doc's tut only when you add skins and stuff or weapon skins. Vehicle things can be done more easily via SAMI.

Well, that's an opinion too... :-\
I say this, be ye redy with good hert
To al my wil, and that I frely may
As me best pleaseth do you laughe or smert,
And never ye to murmur, night or day;
And eek whan I say yea, ye say not nay,
Neyther by word, nor frownyng countenaunce?
Swer this, and here I swer our alliaunce.

My recent experiences show that it's best to still use IMG Tool, because SAMI may make your games via the internet, frustrating by making some textures invisible, ( trees, lamp-posts etc. ).
