The Hero Bulletin - May 2008

"They said we would last for three months. Well, we're still here..."

In this issue we'll cover up:
  • Northern Dawn Heroes - a year behind us, another to come! (Hopefully.)
  • Recent changes in NDH gameservers
  • Grand Theft Auto 4 - bigger, better... or not?
  • Battlefield Heroes: Beta begins!

Northern Dawn Heroes - a year behind us, another to come! (Hopefully.)

Has it really been almost a year already? It certainly doesn't feel so.

We're celebrating the one year anniversary on Monday, 12th of May 2008. We're giving out the yearly NDH Clan Banana Awards! Yep, we didn't want to stick to the regular medal stuff. So now all you get is a banana... or a bunch of bananas. Fair, huh?

The available awards are:
  • Clan Member of the Year
  • Craziest Clan Member of the Year
  • Member of the Year
  • Moron of the Year
  • Gamer of the Year
  • Helper of the Year
  • Idea Man of the Year
  • Spammer of the Year
  • Worker of the Year
There may also be some surprise awards. Wait and see - it's all revealed on the 12th of May...

Recent changes in NDH gameservers

As you may have noticed, we no longer have servers in San Andreas Multiplayer (SA-MP) nor in Multi Theft Auto (MTA). That means that the NDH clan is now out of GTA multiplayer mods. Nothing lasts forever, as you know.
However, we have started a server in Trackmania Nations Forever (TMNF). We've got many of our own custom tracks on the server.
You can find the server from TMNF's server list, under Netherlands > Noord-Holland.

Grand Theft Auto 4 - bigger, better... or not?

Just a few days ago, on the 29th of April, Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA 4) was released.

Jack Thompson has also, once again, started the war against the GTA series.

This time he has a proper reason and more support...

"This is clearly an Adults Only game. It's not even close... Grand Theft Auto IV is the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio. We now have vaccines for that virus... The 'vaccine' that must be administered by the United States government to deal with this virtual virus of violence and sexual depravity is criminal prosecutions of those who have conspired to do this. If you doubt me, look at the aforementioned streaming audio/video. It will make you sick." said Thompson.

Yep, the new GTA is more realistic in every way. The question is, have the games gone too far now? Sure, there are military simulators, racing simulators, but GTA 4 goes further than them: shooting everybody for fun - in a realistic way - might not be so nice anymore. Previous GTA's have been a bit cartoony, unrealistic and funny, but IV goes closer to the reality. Therefore Jack Thompson has a good argument against the game.

Battlefield Heroes: Beta begins!

DiCE and EA announced the following on battlefield-heroes.com few days ago:

"Hello Heroes!
This communiqué is being transmitted to inform you that Battlefield Heroes will be running a closed beta starting May 6th. The first phases of beta will be by invitation only, but we'll be giving out more information about where to sign up in the coming weeks.
Battlefield Heroes Team"

Yeah, it's sad that the beta is invitation-only. However, they crush the biggest bugs first, before starting the public beta. At least that is what we think here at the NDH clan.

DiCE also published the requirements for the game:
  • Operating System: Windows XP or Windows Vista
  • CPU: 1.0 GHz
  • RAM: 512 Mb (1 Gb on Windows Vista)
  • Video Card: 64 Mb DirectX compliant video card with at least Pixel Shader 2.0 support
  • Hard Drive space: 1 Gb of space is required to install the game
  • Internet connection: 256 kbit Cable/DSL connection
So far it looks great! Now you can probably even play at the office - just make sure your boss is not around.

Oh, and we definitely should not forget the new trailer either. This trailer demonstrates the character customizing, plane swooping and driving with jeeps.
